Free agent midfielder seen training at Barcelona facilities

Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto is no longer at the club, despite the Catalan side not having announced his departure. The 32-year-old is a free agent, but remains in the city.

Roberto was rumoured to have agreed a new deal with Barcelona to extend his contract for next season, but with Hansi Flick arriving, the Blaugrana decided not to make any moves before they know they can register all of their other players. Sport note that Roberto has been training individually, and doing so at Barcelona’s Ciutat Esportiva training ground, albeit with Nike kit rather than Barcelona gear.

Meanwhile the likes of Pedri, Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres have also returned from their holidays after Euro 2024 in order to undergo medical tests, and then start preseason training too. They will be joined by the rest of the squad later this week, when their tour in the USA ends.

Recent reports have claimed that Roberto has offers from Italy and the Netherlands, but is yet to accept any of them, or indeed make a decision on his future. There has always been the suggestion that he could end up returning to Barcelona, but as time passes, it looks increasingly unlikely. The impressive performances of Marc Bernal and Marc Casado in preseason will not help his case either.
