Las Palmas to sign second Scottish international as defender jets into Gran Canaria

Last month, Las Palmas completed the signing of Oli McBurnie, who had been a free agent after leaving Sheffield United upon the expiry of his contract. Rather surprisingly, he won’t be the only Scottish player making the move to Gran Canaria this summer.

Marca have reported that Scott McKenna has agreed terms with Las Palmas. The 27-year-old defender, who himself is currently without a club after leaving Nottingham Forest at the end of June, has already arrived in Gran Canaria, as he prepared to make the move official.

McKenna boasts years of Premier League experience, and he was also ever-present for Scotland at Euro 2024 earlier this summer. He will join Luis Carrion’s squad as the replacement for Saul Coco, who joined Serie A side Torino last month.

Remarkably, McKenna will be Las Palmas’ 11th signing of the summer, and there could still be more to come. Carrion should have plenty of options to choose from during the upcoming 2024-25 season.
