“We suffered a lot” – Pep Guardiola waxes lyrical about Hansi Flick and Barcelona

There were a lot of positive signs for Barcelona during their 2-2 draw against Manchester City on Wednesday morning. Hansi Flick’s influence was apparent in the Catalans’ play against the reigning Premier League champions, and the German’s opposite number came away very impressed.

Pep Guardiola assessed the display from his former club when he spoke to the media post-match (via Sport). He waxed lyrical about Barcelona’s performance, as well as the effect that Flick has had in such a short period of time.

“I really liked the team. The competitive matches are completely different to pre-season, but they have done a lot of things well.

“We suffered a lot when they had the ball. Their positional play is extraordinary. The wingers play as wingers, the midfielders arrive in front and the full-backs attack the space.”

There’s no doubt that it was a positive start to a new era for Barcelona, and Flick will be hoping to build on that when they take on Real Madrid this weekend in their annual pre-season Clasico.
