Barcelona midfielder to turn down approach from Serie A giants

Barcelona midfielder Oriol Romeu looked destined to leave the club this summer, after a disappointing two thirds of the season last year, and just a year left on his current deal. However despite interest from Serie A, he now looks set to remain at the club.

Girona were interested in taking him back to Montilivi, but would not meet Barcelona’s demands for him, and now MD are reporting that Romeu is aware of interest from a Serie A side. They say there is a high probablility that Napoli are that side.

After new manager Hansi Flick told him that he would be using him this coming season though, Romeu has decided to stay at his boyhood club. One of the issues is that Napoli do not play in Europe either.

The 33-year-old started off well for Barcelona, but as they moved to a less possession-heavy game, struggled to impose himself, and lost his place in the side under Xavi Hernandez. It would seem that Flick is also seeking a more direct style, but Romeu appears comfortable with what he has seen so far.
