Atletico Madrid striker update: enquiry on terms, Artem Dovbyk situation and interest in Ligue 1 forwards?

Atletico Madrid are on the hunt for a new striker, after talks have broken down with Artem Dovbyk, and have re-focused their attention on Villarreal’s Alexander Sorloth, who was initially identified as their top target.

Dovbyk has agreed a deal with Roma, who are expected to submit a bid of €35m rising to €40m in the coming days to Girona. Los Rojiblancos meanwhile have asked Villarreal about their demands for Sorloth, who has a €38m release clause. According to Relevo, in contrast to earlier in the transfer window, Villarreal are discussing terms with Atletico, rather than simply demanding his release clause. He is now in pole position for the Madrid-based club.

On the other hand, La Repubblica report that Atletico could be interested in Goncalo Ramos or Randal Kolo Muani at Paris Saint-Germain, as carried by Diario AS. This is not the first time this has been reported, but previously, it has always been noted that it would likely be a loan move. The pair arrived for in excess of €150m between them, and Los Colchoneros are unlikely to spend close to what PSG signed them for.

Meanwhile Marco Benito of El Chiringuito maintains that Atletico are also optimistic of securing the signing of Julian Alvarez from Manchester City. Nevertheless, this seems rather optimistic in of itself, with the most recent reporting from England that the Premier League champions would require a package totalling €90m to let him go, which again seems out of range for Atletico.
