Details of Barcelona’s new shorts sponsor revealed as three-year deal approaches

Barcelona are on the verge of getting their first ever sponsorship deal to have a company shown on their shorts. They will sign a three-year deal with Saudi Arabian surface disinfectant brand Medusa.

The deal will be worth around €15m in total, with Medusa to be featured above kit sponsors Nike on their shorts, earning the Blaugrana €5m per year. Diario AS note that this money will help the Blaugrana, but will not cover their unpaid sale of Barca Vision, nor make a decisive difference as things stand. The Catalan giants are hoping to persuade three current sponsors, Spotify, Nike and Aramark (catering), to front the €40m missing from their accounts, although it is not yet clear whether this will be a loan or part of their sponsorship agreements.

Many outlets are reporting that Barcelona cannot make signings this summer until that non-payment is covered, despite President Joan Laporta claiming otherwise. The Blaugrana have been seeking ways of increasing their income constantly over the last 15 years, with their shirt, stadium and now shorts all wearing brand names as a result, something that had not been seen previously.
