Chelsea seal deal for new goalkeeper after increasing offer by nearly 25%

Chelsea will have a new goalkeeper to compete with Robert Sanchez this coming season, after reaching an agreement with Villarreal for Filip Jorgensen. The 22-year-old Danish under-21 international will make the switch to the Premier League after an impressive debut season as undisputed number one in Castellon.

After an initial €20m offer was knocked back, Relevo report that Jorgensen will move for an eventual €24.5m deal from the Yellow Submarine, and will sign a six-year contract with Chelsea, with an option for a further year.

Despite signing Diego Conde for €4m from Leganes earlier this summer, Villarreal are now on the hunt for another goalkeeper, with back-up Pepe Reina having also left. Their goal is to find a free agent goalkeeper to fill that role. Earlier interest in Athletic Club goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala was ended after the 23-year-old underwent back surgery earlier this month.

Chelsea will be getting an excellent shot-stopper in Jorgensen, who looked good despite playing behind one of the leakiest defences in La Liga last year. As is natural in his first season as a starter, Jorgensen still had a few shaky moments though, and he will very much be gathering experience on the job at Chelsea if he does win the starting spot.
