Barcelona not taking key player on US pre-season tour despite receiving medical green light

In the coming days, Barcelona will announce their squad for their annual pre-season tour of the United States. Hansi Flick’s side face Manchester City, Real Madrid and AC Milan during their time stateside.

Flick was already revealed than “30 or 31” players will be going to the US, but surprisingly, one of those won’t be Alejandro Balde. That’s according to MD, who say that Barcelona have not opted to take the 20-year-old defender on tour because he has only just returned to full fitness after six months out with a hamstring injury.

Balde played 45 minutes during Barcelona’s behind-closed-doors friendly against UE Olot on Thursday evening, having received the medical green light from the club’s medical department earlier that day. However, it seems that he will not be risked in the glamour friendlies.

Balde will be one of 10 Barcelona players not making the trip. Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri and Gavi are all injured, while Spain duo Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres are still on holiday. Finally, Pau Cubarsi, Eric Garcia and Fermin Lopez are at the Olympic Games in Paris.
