Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Stefan Savic will be leaving the club after nine years in the Spanish capital. The Serbian defender won a La Liga title and the Europa League with Los Rojiblancos.
Savic and Atletico have mutually rescinded his deal, which was extended until 2025 during the past season after he hit a set number of games. The 33-year-old arrived from Fiorentina in 2016, and played 297 times for Atletico following a €12m move. Until the past year, Savic has been an instrumental piece for Diego Simeone.

“Dear Rojiblanca family:
I am leaving our Atlético de Madrid with a clear conscience because I have given everything I had! I will be eternally grateful and full of honor for having had the opportunity to wear this shirt and defend this badge all this… pic.twitter.com/kq7S2c8wqj

He had already been given permission to travel to Turkey to join his new club Trabzonspor, and was given a hero’s welcome by his new fanbase. Savic’s exit is part of a planned revamp of the Atletico defence this summer, with Robin Le Normand set to come through the door. Los Rojiblancos are also thought to be seeking a second central defender too, having watched Mario Hermoso leave on a free too.
