Antoine Griezmann considering Atletico Madrid exit as €10m operation heats up

Antoine Griezmann is undoubtedly seen as the talismanic figure of Atletico Madrid, and with good reason too. He’d been one of the La Liga’s best performers over the last two seasons, and with him in the side, Diego Simeone’s squad is much stronger. However, there is a chance that he walks away this summer.

It’s well known that Griezmann’s dream is to end his career in the MLS. That ambition could become a reality sooner than expected, as L’Equipe have reported that the 33-year-old has received an enticing contract proposal from LAFC, who already boast two of his former France teammates: Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud.

LAFC have been in talks with Griezmann’s entourage over the last few weeks, and they’ve now presented an offer to the man himself. They want him now, although they are prepared to wait until 2025 if they do not receive the green light for this summer’s operation. They would also have little problem paying his release clause, which is worth a meagre €10m.

The contract on offer to Griezmann would make him the second-highest paid player in the MLS, behind former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi. Atletico Madrid will be desperate to retain his services for at least one more season, especially considering that they’ve already parted ways with Memphis Depay and Alvaro Morata this summer.
