Real Madrid answer Carlo Ancelotti’s wishes: agreement reached with 29-year-old defender

Real Madrid’s left-back situation has been one to watch in recent months. Alphonso Davies has been strongly linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, although it seems for now that this is a deal that would be delayed until 2025, when the Canadian international is set to become a free agent.

It means that Ferland Mendy would continue as first-choice, despite not being a convincing figure for some members of the Real Madrid board. Carlo Ancelotti values him highly, and in recent weeks, he has been pushing for the French defender to sign a new contract – his current deal ends next summer, at the same time as Davies’.

Ancelotti’s wishes have been answered, as Marca have reported that Real Madrid have agreed a new contract with Mendy. It would be a two-year extension, keeping him in the Spanish capital until 2027. All that remains is for the deal to be signed by Mendy himself, after which it can become official.

Mendy proved his worth to Real Madrid last season, and he’s set to remain as an important figure for at least another 12 months.
