Nico Williams has returned home to Bilbao, and as such, a decision is expected imminently on his future. Athletic Club are desperate to retain his services for at least one more season, whereas Barcelona are pushing hard to sign him – and have already secured a contract agreement with the player’s agent.
Barcelona are ready and willing to pay Williams’ release clause, valued at €58m, and once the 22-year-old gives to go-ahead, they will proceed to do so. However, club bosses are threatened by the presence of Paris Saint-Germain, who have emerged a serious candidate to secure Williams’ services.

As per MD, Barcelona are taking PSG’s interest in Williams very seriously, as they believe that reigning Ligue 1 champions could tempt the Euro 2024 winner – because of the financial package that they can offer, as well as their stronger standing in the Champions League. At PSG, Williams would be the replacement of Kylian Mbappe, who left earlier this summer to join Real Madrid.
Barcelona are hoping that they’ve done enough to convince Williams, having already convinced his agent. The lure of remaining in Spain, as well as playing alongside close friends in Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde, could be enough to not only beat PSG, but also tempt him away from boyhood club Athletic.
