Barcelona’s first team has been laden with young players during the first couple of weeks of pre-season. One of those being assessed by new head coach Hansi Flick is Marc Bernal, one of the best young talents in La Masia.
Bernal is a defensive midfielder, and he’s rated incredibly highly by Barcelona officials. At 17, he’s already a regular for Barca Atletic, and over the next 12 months, he could make the step up to the first team on a permanent basis.
In the meantime, Barcelona have announced that Bernal has signed a new two-year contract, which keeps him at the club until 2026.

Bernal’s progress will be very interesting to keep an eye on over the coming season. Barcelona’s lack of defensive midfield options in the first team could play into his favour, and if one is not signed during the remainder of the summer transfer window, he could be in for a call-up.
