Real Madrid expect to finalise key piece of business in the next few days

It’s a well-known fact that Carlo Ancelotti holds Ferland Mendy in very high regard, more so than the vast majority of Real Madrid’s board members. It feels like he has almost single-handedly ensured that the defender, whose current contract expires in 2025, will not be leaving this summer.

And it is almost certain that Mendy won’t be leaving, despite the strong interest being shown in Alphonso Davies. What’s more, talks over a contract extension are already talking place, and according to Marca, Real Madrid expect an agreement to be reached in the next few days.

Ancelotti established Mendy’s renewal as one of the priorities for Real Madrid’s sporting department. Negotiations have progressed well in the last couple of weeks, and the hope is that everything will be finalised soon.

It will be interested to see how long Mendy’s new contract runs for, given that Real Madrid are likely to sign Davies next summer – provided that he doesn’t sign a new deal of his own with Bayern Munich. Nevertheless, the starting spot at Los Blancos for next season will be Mendy’s, barring any significant developments.
