Manchester City set asking price for Julian Alvarez amid interest from Atletico Madrid

Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez has grown tired of playing a secondary role under Pep Guardiola, and would be open to a move this summer. The issue is finding a destination with enough cash to make the move happen.

Atletico Madrid have made contact with Alvarez’s agent in recent weeks, and seemingly he would be open to a move to the Spanish capital, but the price tag was always likely to be an issue. Described by some outlets as Atletico’s ‘dream signing’, The Athletic report that Manchester City are looking for a €70m fee with a further €20m in variables to allow him to leave this summer.

This would seem well out of reach for Los Rojiblancos, who have been haggling over the price tag for Artem Dovbyk, rather than paying his €40m release clause. It does appear that talks are reaching a positive conclusion with Girona though, and a deal could be close. If he does arrive though, it would be a major surprise if Atletico were to spend over €100m on their forward line this summer, ruling out a move for Alvarez, unless City lower their demands or accept a loan move.
