Barcelona looking to hand new contract to 21-year-old midfielder

Barcelona will look to hand a second first-team contract to Fermin Lopez in consecutive years to Fermin Lopez, after his impressive performances. Lopez was one of just two players to be included in both Spain’s Euro 2024 squad and their Olympics squad alongside Alex Baena, and the Blaugrana are happy with his performances.

Lopez broke onto the scene in preseason last year, scoring against Real Madrid, and managed to hang onto to first-team squad role for the rest of the year. He was handed a new deal until 2027 in September of last year though, and after scoring 11 times in just 19 starts, Sport say they will try to give him a new deal until 2029.

That said, the new deal is not a priority, and they will wait for when they have space in their salary limit to do so. The Catalan paper detail that his extension last year was rather ‘austere’, and it was signed in a hurry to tie him down, with just a year left on his contract at the time. Now they will look to reward him with a new and better deal.
