Atletico Madrid may not offer new contract to Antoine Griezmann before current deal expires

Antoine Griezmann is undoubtedly Atletico Madrid’s talisman and reference point, and he will continue to be so for the upcoming season. At 33, he remains one of the best players in La Liga, although from within the Metropolitano, there are growing doubts in regards to how long he can continue to compete at the highest level.

Griezmann’s current contract expires in the summer of 2026, and for now, Atleti have no plans to offer an extension, as reported by Marca. In particular, they do not want to increase his salary, which is considered to be rather modest given the important he holds to Diego Simeone’s squad.

It’s worth noting that Griezmann will be 35 years of age when his current contract comes to an end, so it is understandable in a sense that there are concerns about offering him a new contract. However, Atletico Madrid would be willing to retain his services if he continues at a high level over the next two seasons.
