Alphonso Davies likely to stay at Bayern Munich this summer despite Real Madrid interest

Real Madrid signed Kylian Mbappe this summer, and Endrick Felipe will also be presented to the fans this week, but they might be the only two arrivals this summer. Los Blancos missed out on Leny Yoro, and now it looks as if Alphonso Davies may no longer be arriving either.

The Canadian left-back was singled out as one of their top targets this summer, and with just a year left on his deal, it seemed Bayern Munich would be willing to discuss a deal for him. However Relevo report that discussion that they may keep Davies for the final year of his contract is more than just posturing.

While they are still open to a large offer from Real Madrid, Los Blancos have no intention of reaching the figures demanded by Bayern, and they will spend the next year trying to renew his deal. He is well-liked by his teammates and new manager Vincent Kompany, and they are willing to risk another David Alaba case, where the Austrian signed for free at the Santiago Bernabeu.

On the other hand, Real Madrid will forge ahead with Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia this season, and neither are they averse to Davies arriving on a free next summer. They are aware they will have to work harder to ensure that Davies does not change his mind on joining the club either.

The 23-year-old is certainly an exceptional opportunity, but as Real Madrid showed with Leny Yoro, they are not willing to cross the line once they have drawn it, even if it means losing out on a player. Previous reports have cited Davies’ value to Bayern at €50m, while Real Madrid were only willing to reach €30m – around the difference that separated them from Yoro’s signature.
