Real Madrid eyeing up move for Serie A defender despite recent public rebuttal

Real Madrid have not panicked in the wake of missing out on Leny Yoro’s signing. The 18-year-old defender opted to join Manchester United earlier this week, on the back of Los Blancos’ decision not to raise their offer to match Lille’s valuation.

For now, Carlo Ancelotti has four centre-back options: Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao, Aurelien Tchouameni and Jesus Vallejo. Club bosses are comfortable with this setup for the upcoming season, although they are prepared to change their mind later in the summer.

As reported by Diario AS, Real Madrid have a list of targets drawn up in the event of signing a new central defender, and on their list is former player Mario Gila, who currently plays for Serie A side Lazio.

While Real Madrid may be interested in Gila, the feeling does not appear to be mutual. Last weekend, the 23-year-old confirmed his intention to continue at Lazio, and admitted that he is prepared to reject the advances of his previous club. It remains to be seen whether that is still his stance if/when Los Blancos come calling.
