Midfielder continues to give priority to Barcelona despite Premier League interest

Barcelona are still trying to orchestrate their return to La Liga’s 1:1 rule, which has delayed any potential incoming deals from being completed. First team registrations are also on the backburners, and these two problems have led to massively uncertainty on the future of last season’s club captain, Sergi Roberto.

Roberto is officially no longer a Barcelona player, as his contract expired at the end of June. However, with departure has not been announced, and there’s still a chance for him to join up with Hansi Flick’s squad.

It is a slim chance, but it’s one that Roberto is determined to hold on to. As per Sport, the 32-year-old will continue to prioritise re-signing with Barcelona, despite the fact that he is also eyeing up a move to the Premier League.

Roberto was one of Barcelona’s lowest earners last season, but with the emergence of several La Masia talents, he’s no longer as needed as he once was – that was reflected in his playing time in 2023-24. For now, it still looks probable that he will not be with the Catalan giants going forward.
