Barcelona midfielder decides to leave club – Premier League move likely

Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto has decided to leave the club after nearly two decades, having joined the club as a teenager. The 32-year-old is out of contract, and Barcelona had informed him there was still a chance that he could sign a new deal, but he has given up waiting for the Blaugrana.

Roberto had agreed to an extension in May, but Xavi Hernandez’s exit put the deal on hold, and Barcelona had told him that if there was space in their salary limit, they would sign him. However they did not guarantee him a spot in the side. As per MD, Roberto has decided to stop waiting for the Blaugrana, and will instead seek pastures new, with an offer from the Premier League top of his priority list. Sevilla, Valencia and Girona all sounded him out, but he is more keen on a move abroad.

If this is the end for Roberto at Barcelona, then it has been a long and successful run at the club. Making his debut under Pep Guardiola, Roberto has racked 375 appearances, 19 goals and 43 assists, and was also the author of one of the most famous goals in Barcelona history, completing La Remuntada against Paris Saint-Germain.
