Barcelona have become the butt of many jokes in recent years due to their financial situation, and while their fans have shown good intention, a social media stunt is unlikely to help their image. President Joan Laporta has been keen to remind that at no point has he asked the members to bail them out by asking for money, but he’s getting some anyway.
As reported by Cadena Cope amongst others, Barcelona fans have been donating money to the club on TikTok, with a view to aiding their bid to sign Nico Williams. The Blaugrana have been ‘flooded’ with fans donating money over the social network under the references ‘My contribution to the signing’, ‘To sign Nico’ and ‘My contribution to sign Nico Williams’, although it is not detailed exactly how much has been sent in total.
The latest reporting is that Barcelona could do with it – just months after securing a line of credit worth €100m to cover unexpected shortcomings in their income, they will request a fresh line of credit in order to aid the signing of Williams. Laporta has publicly declared that Barcelona can sign Williams as of today, but that has contradicted much of the reporting on the matter.
