Real Madrid wrap up third contract in a week following Kylian Mbappe signing

Real Madrid have announced a third contract signing of the week, with Lucas Vazquez penning a new deal on Thursday. After Kylian Mbappe on Tuesday and Modric on Wednesday, Vazquez’s renewal was confirmed and the photo ops published.

The 33-year-old has extended his deal for a further year until 2025, with players over thirty generally only offered one-year extensions. Vazquez was a back-up to Dani Carvajal, but as ever played an important role in their season. In 38 appearances he registered three goals and eight assists, despite just 18 starts, including a crucial stoppage time winner over Alaves and a man of the match performance in their 3-2 win over Barcelona, where he was involved in all three goals.

Some thought Vazquez should even have been included in the Spain squad for Euro 2024, but he will again be a reliable understudy to Dani Carvajal next season. Carlo Ancelotti has shown little fear of turning to him, and he proved his value again last year. Real Madrid‘s right side is one of the strongest one-two options around.
