Pay up or go to court: Kylian Mbappe’s mother warns Paris Saint-Germain over unpaid wages

Real Madrid welcomed Kylian Mbappe to the club on Tuesday with a presentation only matched by that of Cristiano Ronaldo 15 years ago. He has headed off on holidays, but he still has some business to attend to in Paris.

One of the main characters of the day was his mother and agent Fayza Lamari, who broke down in tears upon seeing her son welcomed to the stage by Real Madrid President Florentino Perez. Speaking to Le Parisien, Lamari said the magnitude of the club hit her on Tuesday.

“It is the biggest club in the world. On Tuesday I felt the difference, for example, with PSG. The Parc de Princes is extraordinary,” Marca quoted.

“But when you arrive at Real Madrid you feel the weight of the institution. It’s a club with a huge history.”

Mbappe is still owed wages from PSG and some of his signing bonus, with some reports claiming that it is as much as €100m. Lamari confirmed that this was the case, although not the amount.

“It is now in the hands of Kylian’s representatives. But I trust that PSG will resolve it quickly. We just received a letter from them. Decisions will be made. […] I hope that all this does not tarnish everything we have experienced. I want to remember the positive things about PSG.”

She also warned that Mbappe’s lawyer, Delphine Verheyden, would take the matter to court if necessary.

“If we have no other choice, yes, of course. Now, I really hope that the contract we signed two years ago is respected. In reality, no one can say what happened, neither me nor the PSG representatives, because for two years Kylian and the president have always met alone, except once.”

The debate centres around a reported verbal agreement between PSG CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Mbappe for the latter to forego some of his wages if he left on a free, in exchange for PSG returning to action with the squad, He had been left out of their preseason tour, and was being threatened with a year in the stands.
