“He shouldn’t regret anything” – Kylian Mbappe’s mother on turning down Real Madrid two years back

Kylian Mbappe has arrived at Real Madrid: a saga that began seven years ago and reached fever pitch two summers back finally ended on Tuesday, as he was presented to a nearly full Santiago Bernabeu. There was little talk of traitor or reluctance to welcome him, despite the reaction to his staying at Paris Saint-Germain two years ago.

During the presentation that criticism was brought up, but Mbappe did not

“No, he shouldn’t regret anything. When you are born in Paris and grow up in Bondy, it is quite an event to play in the Parc des Princes. Kylian has never lied. He always told the president that one day he would go to Real Madrid. But if it wasn’t Madrid, I would never have left Paris. It has been very, very difficult for Kylian, that is clear,” she told Le Parisien as quoted by Marca.

It was noted during his presentation that Mbappe was relatively humble in his declarations, with little use of the word ‘I’, and plenty of talk about helping Real Madrid to continue being great.

“If you arrive at a club like this without humility, it won’t work;” Lamari remarked, and when challenged with that fact that Mbappe doesn’t always come across as humble, this was her response.

“Kylian’s career would not be the same if he had lacked humility. He has the ability to constantly question himself.”

The French superstar had the fanfare arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu, and now the wait to see him in action begins. The latest is that he will not undergo surgery for his broken nose, but will miss their preseason tour to the USA in order to recover. His likely debut is a little over a month away in the European Supercup final against Atalanta, on the 14th of August.
