Alvaro Morata’s move to AC Milan, which should be announced imminently, means that Atletico Madrid are required to sign a new striker this summer, especially as they’ve already lost Memphis Depay – whose contract was mutually terminated in June. Club officials are moving quickly to sort Morata’s replacement.
Artem Dovbyk has been a target for Atleti for most of the summer, but negotiations with Girona have stalled in recent weeks. However, Relevo have reported that the two clubs are resumed talks .

Dovbyk, last season’s Pichichi Trophy winner in his first season in La Liga, has a release clause of €40m, but Atleti are aiming to pay lower than this amount. Personal terms are already finalised, and the player himself is willing to pressurise Girona in order to ensure that a fee is agreed upon soon.
It’s clear that Dovbyk would be a stellar signing for Atletico Madrid, and he’d be a significant upgrade on Morata in the goalscoring department – if last season is to go by, anyway. It looks like being a very exciting summer if you are a Colchonero.
