Manchester City set for €70m offer for forward

With Alvaro Morata moving on to AC Milan this week, Atletico Madrid have been left without their starting forward. While Samu Omorodion has returned from his loan at Alaves, with Memphis Depay also moving on, they will need to bring someone in. The most recent reporting is that they are looking to make a splash in the market.

Various reports say that Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez is keen to join Atletico, as he searches for regular game time following two seasons at the Etihad. MD add to that, referencing sources in Argentina, saying that Atletico intend to make a loan offer for Alvarez with a €70m obligation to buy next summer. For their part, City are willing to let him go, but it is not yet clear how much he will cost, or whether they will be open to negotiation for a loan with an obligation to buy.

Prior reports in Europe had suggested that Paris Saint-Germain were the only side in Europe that could realistically afford to do a deal for him. Los Rojiblancos could certainly inspire the Metropolitano with a major coup like Alvarez. With Antoine Griezmann now 33 years of age, and coming back from Euro 2024 looking exhausted, it’s worth wondering whether Atletico may be considering investing in their next marquee forward sooner rather than later.
