Ever since Aleix Garcia’s move to Bayer Leverkusen was confirmed earlier in the summer, Girona have been searching for his replacement. It now appears that sporting director Quique Carcel has settled on the player he wants to add to Michel Sanchez’s squad, and as it turns out, it’s a compatriot of Artem Dovbyk and Viktor Tsygankov.
As reported by MD, Girona are close to signing Oleksandr Petrusenko from NK Istra. The 26-year-old Ukrainian pivot would be a relatively low-cost signing for the Catalans, and the hope is that a deal will be finalised towards the end of the month.
Petrusenko is described as a player with a defensive profile, a specialist in sweeping and cutting, and very adept at stopping the opposition from progressing up the field. He predominantly plays as a pivot, although he can also be utilised as an interior or central defender.
This deal is close to being completed, but one player that won’t be joining Girona this summer is Yan Couto, who had spent the previous two seasons at Montilivi. UEFA rules appear to prevent him from returning, and it’s now been reported by Sky Sports Germany (via Sport) that the Brazilian defender has agreed personal terms with Borussia Dortmund.
