Barcelona have officially confirmed the return of Thiago Alcantara to the club, 11 years after departing as a player. The 33-year-old retired earlier this month after leaving Liverpool, and has joined Hansi Flick’s coaching staff.
As per their statement, Thiago will be with the club ‘all summer’ as he learns to be a coach himself, and will be on their preseason tour to the USA. Prior reporting has explained that Thiago has been working with the coaching staff for the past week, after multiple conversations with manager Hansi Flick.

The Bavarian coach knows him from their time together at Bayern Munich, and has been playing a key role in the adaptation for Flick and his staff to life at Barcelona. He speaks German and Spanish, and has been intervening to translate for Flick at points. All the same, he is not keen to tie himself into the role in the medium-term.
