Real Madrid may be focusing on a deal for Leny Yoro as of right now, but they haven’t forgotten about another top target for this summer’s transfer window: Alphonso Davies. The Canadian left-back has been heavily linked with a move to Los Blancos, although the chances of a deal taking place in 2024 appears to be complicated.
In previous months, Bayern looked prepared to cash in on Davies this summer if he did not sign a new contract – his current deal ends in 2025. Real Madrid want to take advantage of this by acquiring his services for a significantly reduced price, although so far, the two clubs are far apart in their valuations.
Bayern now seem determined to keep Davies this summer, thus increasing the risk of losing him on a free, in the hope of convincing him to sign a new contract during next season. Sporting director Christoph Freund has confirmed (via Diario AS) that talks were held recently.
“Talks have been held, and now he is on holiday. The door is not closed. The important thing is that he has a good pre-season and recovers his form. In recent years, he has become a key player.”
Real Madrid are relaxed about the Davies situation. Because they already have Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia (and they can re-sign Miguel Gutierrez if they wish), there’s no rush to sign Davies now. However, it is a gamble not to get him this summer, as he could end up penning a renewal in the next 10-11 months.
