Luis Suarez has dropped a major hint that he is ready to retire from international football.
The former Barcelona star joined Inter Miami at the end of 2023 on a one year contract in Florida.
Suarez turned 37 in January and he is already making plans to call time on a superb career.
His stance on Inter Miami is clear, after indicating he will not activate a 12 month extension on his contract, as he edges towards retirement for club and country.
Suarez has struggled with injuries since leaving European football in 2022 and he has been frank over the toll football is taking on his body.
After securing a third place playoff final win over Canada at the 2024 Copa America, Suarez effectively stated he will end his Uruguay career, to focus on his final months in Miami.
“There was no better way to end it, with victory today, finishing third, and taking positives and improving the negatives”, as per reports from Diario Sport.
“It’s not time to talk about anything personally, about whether I will continue, or not.”
Suarez’s 142 caps places him as the second most capped Uruguayan player of all time and he leads the scorer charts on 69 goals.
