Luis de la Fuente demands more from ‘world’s best’ Spain after Euro 2024 title

Spain boss Luis de la Fuente is already looking to the future following their Euro 2024 title win.

La Roja held off a late England challenge to secure a first European title since 2012 as Mikel Oyarzabal snatched a winner in Berlin.

On a night of nerves in the German capital, Spain showed the grit they needed, particularly to react to England’s equaliser.

De la Fuente was delighted at full time as he praised his players for getting over the line in the Olympiastadion.

He was clear in his estimation of Spain now being the world’s No.1 team and claimed there is still more to come ahead of 2026 World Cup qualification.

“I couldn’t be any happier, seeing the fans, the players.” as per Marca.

“It was a wonderful day, where a true team has been crowned. For me they are the best in the world.

“We can always improve, that’s our goal. In this team we always think we can be better.

Spain are in UEFA Nations League action in September, up against Serbia and Switzerland, with the draw for World Cup qualifying set for December

Qualification for the tournament itself starts in March 2025 and the pre-play off stage ends in November.
