Lamine Yamal affected as England prepare to make surprise defensive change for Euro 2024 final

There’s no doubt that Lamine Yamal will be one of Spain’s dangermen for Sunday’s Euro 2024 final. The Barcelona winger, who turned 17 on Saturday, has been many pundits’ Player of the Tournament, and he could have a big say in Berlin, which is why England will be so desperate to lock him up.

It had been expected that Kieran Trippier would be the player tasked with stopping Lamine Yamal – the Newcastle United defender has started all six of England’s matches at Euro 2024 so far, but as reported by the Daily Telegraph, he will be dropped against Spain, with Manchester United’s Luke Shaw starting in his place.

It’s worth noting that Shaw has not started a match since February, so it is a massive risk from England manager Gareth Southgate to start him against the in-form player of Euro 2024. It could end up being a masterstroke – Spain will hope not, and Lamine Yamal will be aiming to run the 29-year-old ragged.
