Barcelona are still working towards returning to La Liga’s 1:1 rule as soon as possible. Once that is achieved, they can start to focus on the signings they will add to Hansi Flick’s squad for next season. Nico Williams is their top target, but others are being strong considered.
One of those is Joao Cancelo, who was on loan at the Blaugrana last season. In recent weeks, it had looked unlikely that the Portuguese defender would return, but given that he has rejected all other interest that has come his way, Manchester City are resigned to allowing him to make the move back to Catalonia.
As per MD, Barcelona are focused on negotiating Cancelo’s return. Talks with Man City will come soon – the Premier League champions want a permanent arrangement, although they will be open to another loan deal as a last resort.
Hansi Flick would like Cancelo, but he also sees Koundé as a good option for the right-back position. @gbsans

It’s expected that Barcelona will only look to loan Cancelo for a second time, given that funds will be used on other targets – namely Williams. Flick has given his approval for a deal to take place.
