Atletico Madrid eyeing up 43-goal striker as replacement for departing Alvaro Morata

In the next couple of weeks, it’s expected that Alvaro Morata will depart Atletico Madrid in order to join AC Milan. The 31-year-old striker has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Rossoneri, who will activate the release clause in his Atleti contract in the days after the Euro 2024 final.

Morata’s departure would mean that Atleti are two strikers down from the start of the summer, having already parted ways with Memphis Depay. A new signings will certainly be needed, and according to Tiago Silva from Correio da Manha (via MD), Los Colchoneros are expected to target Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres.

“If they are left without Morata, Atletico Madrid’s first option will almost certainly be Gyokeres. I don’t know what the value is, but I have information about it. He is very well referenced and, very possibly, Sporting will have among the biggest concerns, that of Simeone.”

Gyokeres is off the back of an outrageous 43-goal season with Sporting, and he’d be a prolific addition to Diego Simeone’s squad. It remains to be seen whether Atletico Madrid’s reported interest results in anything further.
