Spain face England in tomorrow’s Euro 2024 final with Nico Williams set to start for La Roja in Berlin.
Luis de la Fuente is expected to stick with an unchanged midfield and attack for the final with Williams starting five of Spain’s six games at the tournament.
Ahead of the final showdown, de la Fuente has backed Williams and fellow winger Lamine Yamal to handle the pressure of such a crunch game, despite their lack of finals experience.
His faith looks well placed with huge attention on both players as Barcelona continue their transfer pursuit of Williams from Athletic Club.
Despite receiving less attention than his fellow winger, Williams has been highlighted as Spain’s key threat by former England captain Wayne Rooney, who compared his rise to Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Williams is exceptional. He reminds me of Cristiano Ronaldo when he was young.”, as per his column in The Times.
“He’s a big lad, he’ll take the ball and sometimes he tries too much but usually makes the right decision.
“He’s an incredible threat in one-on-ones and scores goals. England need to be really careful with him.”
Williams scored his first goal of the tournament in the 4-1 last 16 win over Georgia with three scored in 19 senior international appearances.
