Earlier this year it was reported that Real Madrid would be interested in signing Manchester City and Spain star Rodri Hernandez, and right-back Dani Carvajal has confirmed that he is trying to persuade him to make the switch. His take on the matter is that he is happy in Manchester, but it is unlikely to have inspired much confidence from City fans.
Carvajal told the media on Thursday that he tells Rodri to come back to Spain and join him at the Santiago Bernabeu next season. Asked whether he would consider a return to his native country, the former Atletico Madrid midfielder made it clear he had no reason to leave his current club.
“I try to analyse all the decisions I make, have a criteria. And, above all, go through processes. I am very, very happy in England. I think I am in one of the best clubs in the world, that is evident, and I am happy. I have a three-year contract and, when the time comes, I will see. But I’ve said it before regarding the short term. I don’t like it or it doesn’t make much sense to look at the long term,” he told Diario AS.
Yet if home is where the heart is, then he could well be motivated to sign for Real Madrid.
“Spain is my country, Madrid my city, my home. And well, when I went to Manchester, I remember a conversation I had with my parents in which they asked me if I was sure because I was going to another country, another culture. And, in the end, one is happy when one is sure of things. If I return, it would be with conviction.”
Los Blancos have plenty in midfield with Fede Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni set to be around for some time, but none of them are at the level of Rodri currently. In addition, Real Madrid may need to start looking at signing or bringing through more Spanish players in the coming years with Lucas Vazquez and Carvajal ageing, to meet UEFA’s homegrown rules in their Champions League squad. There’s no better Spanish player they could bring in.
