Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin went viral in Spain last year for getting married in a tracksuit to wife Anastasia, and has now explained exactly what was behind the unusual decision.
In an interview with Marca, Lunin revealed that the one autograph he would like more than any other was that of Michael Jordan. The most special shirt he has in his collection is that of Manuel Neuer, who he faced this season, explaining that the German number one ‘changed the role of goalkeepers’.
In terms of his special day though, Lunin revealed that he felt it was easier and more comfortable not to get dressed up.
“We did not feel comfortable in the atmosphere of suits, with everyone watching, speaking in front of many people… My wife and I decided it and it was easier, very comfortable and a special day all the same.”
Lunin is reputedly much more reserved than many of his teammates and keeps himself to himself. He will have a more typical celebration at some point though.
“It is true that one day we want to have a ceremony on a beach, with the family, without suits, but her in a summer dress, and I in a white shirt… In the future we will do something more beautiful,” he noted.
Whether that will be a beach in Spain or not remains to be seen. Lunin’s future is up in the air by his own admission, with a deal agreed for a new long-term contract, but not yet signed. His agent Jorge Mendes is due to meet with Real Madrid to determine his next move.
