New mural goes up in Barcelona depicting Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams

Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Athletic Club’s Nico Williams have become the face of this Spain side on their way to the Euro 2024 final, with their joyous play lighting up the tournament. The pair are the theme of the summer in Spain.

Over the weekend, popular Spanish artist Estopa had a 60,000 strong crowd singing Lamine Yamal’s name, while a photo of the 16-year-old in Lionel Messi’s arms has gone viral around the world. The latest evidence of his popularity is a mural that has gone up in Barcelona, next to Torre Agbar in Placa de les Glories. Street artist TVBoy posted it on his social media with the following caption, as reported by RAC1.

“Respect for these guys! Their enthusiasm and passion not only unite fans around the world, they also demonstrate how sport can be a powerful tool for social cohesion.”

Of course this comes amidst plenty of talk about the pair potentially playing together at club level in Barcelona. It’s something that Athletic President Jon Uriarte has tried to combat with an angry riposte against Barcelona and the Spanish Federation.

TVBoy is reponsible for several famous murals around the Catalan capital, including a Lionel Messi-Diego Maradona piece, and an Alexia Putellas mural too.
