Marc Cucurella hopes Chelsea teammate stays benched in Euro 2024 final

Spain star Marc Cucurella has highlighted one England star he is concerned about ahead of the Euro 2024 final.

La Roja face off with Gareth Southgate’s team in Berlin on July 14 with Cucrella set to start at left back.

Luis de la Fuente has placed his faith in the Chelsea defender as his first choice option in the role despite calls for a change before the tournament.

The 25-year-old has completed more tackles than any other defender from either finalist and de la Fuente will stick by him.

However, Cucurella admitted he is wary of the threat posed by club teammate Cole Palmer, on the back of him scoring 22 Premier League goals last season.

Palmer has not started for England at Euro 2024, but he scored off the bench in the quarter final penalty shootout win over Switzerland, and laid on an assist for Ollie Watkins’ semi final winner against the Netherlands.

“I talked with him (Palmer), but it was over a week ago. We talked for a while in the previous rounds. For me it’s much better if he doesn’t play and stays on the bench”, as per quotes from Mundo Deportivo.

Southgate is expected to stick with a largely unchanged line up against Spain with Palmer kept in reserve for a second half change.
