Golden Boy winner revealed: La Liga to take home award for fourth straight year

Barcelona starlet Lamine Yamal is receiving plenty of recognition at Euro 2024, playing a leading role in Spain’s run to the final. That recognition will be formalised this year.

As per Joaquin Maroto on Onze, Lamine Yamal is set to win the Golden Boy award, succeeding Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham last season. It will be the fourth straight year that a Liga player has won the award, following on from Barcelona teammates Pedri and Gavi.

Real Madrid’s Arda Guler was also on the shortlist, which included 11 total La Liga players. Cristhian Mosquera of Valencia, Assane Diao of Real Betis, Ilias Akhomach of Villarreal, Savio of Girona, and Samu Omorodion and Arthur Vermeeren were all on the 100-man longlist, as were Barcelona pair Vitor Roque and Pau Cubarsi.

Based purely on domestic form, Savio can perhaps consider himself unlucky, as one of the most productive players in Spain last season, and while Girona finished behind Barcelona, they were a much better attacking force.
