Espanyol goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco was widely regarded as one of the better in Spain when he went to Catalonia. As Los Pericos fought to make their back up to La Liga though, he was usurped by a young pretender by the name of Joan Garcia.
The 23-year-old was highly impressive as Espanyol made their way through the play-offs, playing a large role in their return to La Liga, and has caught the eye of some top clubs, including Arsenal. Matteo Moretto has told Football España that the Gunners enquired about Garcia this summer, although so far nothing further has transpired. The Italian transfer insider noted that Garcia would become increasingly coveted though, and if a move did not happen this year, it likely would next summer.
Other outlets have also reported that Real Madrid have been keeping an eye on him, while Espanyol reportedly want €25m for Garcia before. His focus will be elsewhere currently, as he has been selected for the Spanish Olympic squad, and is likely to be number one in Paris for La Rojita.
