Atletico Madrid have managed to fend off interest in forward Samu Omorodion, at least for now, despite Premier League interest. Big-spending Chelsea had made offers to Los Rojiblancos, but Atletico were keen to hang onto the 20-year-old save for an exorbitant offer.
Omorodion only debuted this season in La Liga, scoring nine times for Granada and Alaves, with Atletico moving swiftly to sign him for €6m from the former. Chelsea had outlined Omorodion as one of their main objectives this summer, and were keen to bring him in, but Marca now say that they have given up on the deal, turning their attentions to the likes of Lille’s Jonathan David and Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi.

The London side bid as much as €40m, seven of which was easily met variables, Atletico turned the offer down. Despite plenty of speculation, Omorodion himself always remained keen to stay at the Metropolitano.
Certainly Omorodion has the raw attributes to make him one of the best forwards in the world, and a problem for defenders, but nevertheless it takes a certain degree of faith from Diego Simeone and Atletico to turn their noses up at a likely €34m profit after just a year, particularly as they try to rebuild. All the same, if he does reach his potential, he could well be worth three times that.
