Andres Iniesta aiming to follow in Xavi Hernandez’s footsteps by becoming Barcelona manager

At the age of 40, Andres Iniesta continues to have the desire to play professional football. He’s currently at UAE side Emirates Club, whom he joined from Vissel Kobe last summer, although he can started to think after life after he hangs up his boots.

One of his aspirations is to become a manager, and his dream is to manage Barcelona, thus following in the footsteps of former midfield partner, Xavi Hernandez. Speaking at an event to mark La Liga’s collaboration with Uber Eats (via Marca), Iniesta admitted that the aspiration is still a long way off.

“Right now I feel that I would still like to continue playing football. Until I feel that the time to stop has come, I would like to continue playing. Then if I would like to get the title of coach and then we will see what the future holds. Obviously I would like to return to Barcelona at some point, but at what time and in what way I don’t know and no one knows. Let’s see how things go.”

Iniesta also spoke on his former club’s well-documented interest in Nico Williams. He believes that the acquisition of the Athletic Club winger would be a game-changer for Barcelona.

“Nico Williams had a fantastic season at his club, he is a name that is sure to sound for the big teams. His incorporation at Barcelona would take them to another level, but we will see what happens.”
