Alvaro Morata agrees to leave Atletico Madrid – one week after he committed to staying

Last week, Alvaro Morata rejected a move to Saudi Arabia, and he publicly committed his future to Atletico Madrid. Despite this, it now looks increasingly likely that he will be leaving the club in the coming weeks.

Since Morata announced his intention to stay, reports have emerged on AC Milan’s interest in the 31-year-old striker. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who holds a director role at the Rossoneri, has been working to convince him to join, and it appears to have worked.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MD), Morata has now agreed to join Milan. The deal is expected to advance once Euro 2024 is over, at which point he will inform Atleti of his intention to head to the San Siro.

Milan will pay Morata’s release clause, rumoured to be valued at €13m, and they will hand out a three-year contract, worth a total of €12m. This deal would mean that Atletico Madrid must sign a new striker this summer, considering that Memphis Depay has already departed.
