Barcelona have ‘advantage’ over Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool in Nico Williams race

Barcelona President Joan Laporta surprised many with his declaration that they have the money to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club on Monday. It has become common knowledge that Williams is their top target, but with a €58m release clause and plenty of other suitors.

As per Marca, Bayern Munich have been added to the list of sides interested in signing him this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain also capable of putting themselves in the race. Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have all been heavily linked with Williams in recent weeks, with some suggesting that Mikel Arteta prefers him over other targets on Arsenal’s radar.

Meanwhile El Chiringuito report that Williams has told his agent ‘not to do anything silly’, despite the player openly declaring that he has told his agent he does not want to hear a single thing about his future while he is at Euro 2024.

The information revealed to Football España by Matteo Moretto is that Barcelona have an ‘advantage’ over all other suitors for Williams, due to the player’s desire to remain in Spain. With plenty of friends at Barcelona, the 21-year-old looks favourably upon a move to Barcelona, although it comes with the caveat that Barcelona will find a deal ‘difficult to do’ financially, despite Laporta’s claims. Moretto’s information is that they will require a sale before Williams arrives.
