Aurelien Tchouameni criticised by Real Madrid fans over response to French election results

One of the ongoing topics surrounding the French national team in recent weeks has been the responses of a number of their players to the ongoing political landscape in their country. Notably, Kylian Mbappe and Jules Kounde have spoken out against the far right – specifically, the National Assembly (RN) party, headed up by Marine Le Pen.

The New Popular Front (NFP) party won the recent French elections, and this result was met with joy among Les Bleus’ camp. One of those to react positively was Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, who called the result “the victory of the people”.

In response to that remark, Tchouameni received a barrage of abuse, with a significant portion coming from Real Madrid supporters – some of whom called for him to leave the club.

In the past, footballers have often refrained from speaking publicly on politics, and this case involving Tchouameni is perhaps a reason why.
