Arsenal make call to unhappy Real Madrid player amid doubts over future

Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is facing a crucial week for his future, as doubts continue over his role at the club. Los Blancos had all but agreed a new long-term contract for Lunin, with just a year left on his current deal, but since that point there has been no indication he will sign it.

Lunin’s agent will meet with Los Blancos this week to discuss his future, and his camp are persuading him to look for an opportunity, feeling that he deserves to be playing at a big club, something that will be impossible for him with Thibaut Courtois at Real Madrid. Relevo say that he has confirmed to the club that he will be present as preseason training begins on the 15th of July.

The same source goes on to report that Arsenal have made a call to Lunin to enquire about his status. They have shown interest in Espanyol’s Joan Garcia, but are also keeping a close eye on Lunin’s situation, as they prepare to bring in a replacement number two for Aaron Ramsdale.

It seems a move to Arsenal would make little sense for Lunin, given he is keen to play, unless Mikel Arteta gives him some indication that he can fight for his play with David Raya. All the same, he will feel he has a better chance of displacing almost anyone that isn’t Thibaut Courtois. Recently on Football España it was explained that Lunin had been set to stay, but a change in his intentions became evident in the final stages of the season.
