Real Madrid to finally pull trigger on sale of defender as buyback clause is agreed

Real Madrid and Napoli reached a rough agreement for defender Rafa Marin a couple of weeks ago, but the final details have been settled. The 22-year-old could become the largest sale for a Real Madrid player never to appear in the first team.

Marin will undergo his medical in the coming days ahead of Napoli returning to preseason on the ninth of July. The 22-year-old is keen on the move, and Relevo report that the deal is now done. Antonio Conte’s arrival as manager is cited as an important factor.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Marin will cost Napoli €12m, with Los Blancos retaining a buyback clause of €25m in 2026, and €35m in 2027. If Napoli want to increase that buyback option to €70m, they can pay Los Blancos an extra €10m next summer too.

With Marin on the way out, it will require Real Madrid to secure the signing of Leny Yoro this summer rather than next. Currently, Carlo Ancelotti only has Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba and Eder Militao on the books in central defence, two of which are coming of serious injuries. Los Blancos do seem confident they will get Yoro though.
