Vinicius Junior incorrectly denied penalty during Brazil’s draw with Colombia – CONMEBOL

Vinicius Junior had a difficult evening during Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Colombia in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The Real Madrid superstar was frustrated on numerous occasions – he also picked up a yellow card that will rule him out of the Selecao’s Copa America quarter-final showdown against Uruguay.

Vinicius’ frustrations were heightened in the 42nd minute of the match when he went down in the penalty area following a challenge from Daniel Munoz. Referee Jesus Valenzuela did not award a spot-kick, and VAR stuck with the on-field decision. However, it’s now been revealed that they were wrong to do so.

As per MD, CONMEBOL has acknowledged that a penalty should have been awarded to Brazil for the “reckless” challenge on Vinicius.

“In a ball dispute inside the area, the defender does not touch the ball, and as a result of the challenge, there is reckless contact. The referee fails to observe the action and lets the game continue.”

It was a bitter pill to swallow for Vinicius and Brazil, as they were leading 1-0 at the time. The Real Madrid star can feel very hard done by.
